Glass Lens - In this Tutorial, I will teach you how to create a lens.
Introduction: In this tutorial I will teach you how to create a Glass Lens effect. Its a simple effect, after reading this tutorial you should be able to create this effect. If you are having problems feel free to e-mail us, or post a message on the forum.
 

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to create the glass lens above.

Step1: Setting up workspace.
Create a new image using the dimension  800 x 600. Set the background color to white, or whatever background you are planning to put the image on. Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N) and name it Frame.  

Step2: Creating the Frame.
Change the foreground color to #a4a3a3. Now click on the Elliptical Tool . While holding the shift key draw the circle below

 

 

Right click on the Frame Layer, click Blending Option, and apply the setting shown below.

When you are finished applying the Blending Option you should have the image below.

Step3: Creating the Lens.
Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N) and name it Lens. Change the foreground color to #f2f2f2. Now hold Ctrl and click on the Frame Layer to select it, as shown below.

With the selection still selected.

Click Select Modify Contract and change Contract By to 6 pixels.

 

At this point, you should have something like I have below.


Make sure you are on the Lens Layer, using the paint bucket fill the selection with #f2f2f2. In doing so your image should look like mine below.

Right click on the Lens Layer, click Blending Option, and apply the setting shown below.

Outer Glow

Click ok, to apply the settings. After doing that your image should look like mine below.

Now hold Ctrl and click on the Lens Layer to select it, as shown below.

Change the foreground color to Black #000000. With the selection still selected, click on the Brush Tool using the settings below.

Brush the edge of the circle to until you get the effect below.

Change the brush mode to Liner Dodge. Make sure that the Lens Layer is still selected. Also change the foreground color to white #FFFFFF

Brush the spots shown below until you get the effect shown.

Finished:

Yesterday on the 15th of October my gallery went down for some unknown reason. I was able to get the backup of the images, i just lost all the users. The gallery was not that active but i am sill pissed about what happened. I am in the process of reloading the gallery.
