Live Trace - In this tutorial learn how to create the scarface black and white effect.

Introduction: In this tutorial I will teach you how to create this two tone black and white effect. Its something like the Scarface black and white effect. All it takes is couple seconds with Illustrator CS3. Follow this tutorial and lean how to duplicate this effect. Any problems feel free to email us or post a message on the forums.

In this tutorial, I will teach you how to create the effect above.

Step1: Setting up workspace.
Copy(Ctrl+C) the image you are working with, Open Adobe Illustrator and paste the image, Edit Paste. Do a search on google for wallpapers or a spacific name of a person and you will come up with some images.

Step2: Working with the image.
Use the selection Tool(U) to select the image, with the image selected click on on the Live Trace button located at the top of your work area. From there click on Preset and select Photo High Fidelity

With that selected, click and open the Tracing Option Dialog this will bring up the window below.

Change the Color mode to black and White and set the setting shown below. Depending on your image these options will change, Play around with the Threshold option and Blur to get the effect you want.

News Update [10/16/07]

Yesterday on the 15th of October my gallery went down for some unknown reason. I was able to get the backup of the images, i just lost all the users. The gallery was not that active but i am sill pissed about what happened. I am in the process of reloading the gallery.
